1956. október 23. a Magyar történelem egyik legfontosabb dátuma.
Ez a nap a szabadság iránti vágy, a bátorság és a remény szimbóluma, amikor a magyar nép fellázadt a szovjet elnyomás ellen. A forradalom alatt néhány napig úgy tűnt, hogy Magyarország független lehet, de a szovjet hadsereg túlerővel megállította a harcot. Miért történt mindez, és miért emlékezünk még ma is október 23-ra?
October 23, 1956 is one of the most important dates in Hungarian history.
This day is a symbol of the desire for freedom, courage, and hope, when the Hungarian people rose up against Soviet oppression. During the revolution, it seemed for a few days that Hungary might become independent, but the Soviet army, with its superior forces, stopped the fight. Az elnyomás évei
A második világháború után Magyarországot a Szovjetunió megszállta, és kommunista diktatúra alakult ki. Rákosi Mátyás vezetése alatt a kormány nagyon szigorú volt, és elvette az emberek szabadságát.
Ebben az időben sok volt a gazdasági probléma, az állami elnyomás és a politikai üldözés. Az emberek féltek, és az ország gazdasága majdnem összeomlott.
1956-ra a feszültség nagyon nagy lett. Az emberek egyre elégedetlenebbek voltak, főleg a fiatalok és az értelmiségiek, akik nyíltan követelték a változást.
The Years of Oppression
After the Second World War, Hungary was occupied by the Soviet Union, and a communist dictatorship was established. Under the leadership of Mátyás Rákosi, the government was very strict and took away people’s freedom.
At that time, there were many economic problems, state oppression, and political persecution. People lived in fear, and the country’s economy was close to collapsing.
By 1956, the tension had become very strong. People were more and more dissatisfied, especially the young people and intellectuals, who openly demanded change.
A Forradalom Kirobbanása
1956. október 23-án Budapesten békés tüntetés kezdődött. A diákok és a munkások azt követelték, hogy a szovjet csapatok menjenek haza, legyenek szabad választások, és javuljon a gazdaság.
A tömeg a Magyar Rádió épületéhez ment, hogy ott felolvassák a követeléseiket. De a hatóságok fegyverrel válaszoltak. A lövöldözés után az emberek fellázadtak, és harcok kezdődtek a szovjet tankok és a magyar forradalmárok között.
Október végére Magyarország egy rövid időre visszanyerte a függetlenségét.
The Outbreak of Revolution
On October 23, 1956, a peaceful demonstration began in Budapest. Students and workers demanded that the Soviet troops go home, that free elections be held, and that the economy improve.
The crowd went to the building of the Hungarian Radio to have their demands read on air, but the authorities responded with weapons. After the shooting started, the people rose up, and fighting began between the Soviet tanks and the Hungarian revolutionaries.
By the end of October, Hungary had regained its independence for a short time.
A Forradalom Elfojtása
November 4-én a Szovjetunió nagy katonai támadást indított, hogy elfojtsa a forradalmat. A szovjet hadsereg sokkal erősebb volt: több mint kétszázezer katona jött Magyarországra, és hamar legyőzték az ellenállást.
A forradalom alatt több ezer magyar ember meghalt, és sokan – több mint százezren – elmenekültek az országból a megtorlás elől.
The Suppression of the Revolution
On November 4, the Soviet Union launched a large military attack to crush the revolution. The Soviet army was much stronger: more than two hundred thousand soldiers came to Hungary, and they soon defeated the resistance.
During the revolution, thousands of Hungarian people were killed, and many others — more than a hundred thousand — fled the country to escape the reprisals.
